Indianapolis Wedding Photographer | Blooming Trends: 2024's Hottest Wedding Floral Trends

Planning your dream wedding in 2024? Floral arrangements play a pivotal role in setting the ambiance and adding that extra touch of elegance to your special day. In this blog, we'll explore some of the hottest wedding floral trends for 2024, and we'll also share essential tips on when to book your florist, pricing considerations, and introduce you to some of Indianapolis' top wedding florists.

Early Booking is Key

Booking your wedding florist well in advance is crucial. In-demand florists often have their calendars filled months, if not years, in advance. To secure your preferred florist, start your search at least 6-12 months before your wedding date.

Set a Realistic Budget

Determine your floral budget early on in your wedding planning process. Be transparent with your florist about your budget, and they can help create stunning arrangements that fit within your financial constraints. Remember that factors like flower choice and season can affect costs.

Sustainable Florals

2024 is all about eco-conscious choices. Many couples are opting for sustainable floral options, such as locally sourced and seasonal blooms, potted plants, or even faux flowers that can be reused or repurposed after the wedding.

Moody Color Palettes

Dark and moody color palettes are making a statement this year. Deep burgundies, rich purples, and velvety blues paired with contrasting shades like blush or gold create a stunning, dramatic effect.

Textural Variety

Embrace diverse textures in your floral arrangements. Combining different types of blooms, greenery, and even non-floral elements like feathers or berries can add depth and interest to your bouquets and centerpieces.

Hanging Floral Installations

Elevate your wedding décor with hanging floral installations. Whether it's a floral chandelier, cascading blooms, or a suspended flower wall, these dramatic displays will leave a lasting impression.

Unstructured Bouquets

Loose, unstructured bouquets are gaining popularity in 2024. Think wildflower-inspired arrangements with a natural, hand-picked look. They're perfect for rustic or boho-chic weddings.

Statement Florals

Consider having a single, oversized floral focal point, like a flower wall or a massive arch, to create a breathtaking backdrop for your ceremony or photos.

Personalized Florals

Infuse your personality into your floral arrangements by incorporating meaningful blooms, like your birth flowers, or herbs and greenery that hold sentimental value. Your florist can help you create personalized touches.

Special Occasions by Chrissy | Chrissy Sorg-Hudacin

I am Chrissy the owner, florist/decor designer and planner. I have over 20 years of experience working in a floral shop where I planned, created and executed weddings and events. I graduated from Purdue with a bachelors degree in Agriculture Business and Science and have a Master's degree in Education from Cardinal Stritch College. I have planned and coordinated for weddings, banquets, fundraisers, proms and even planned, managed and ran a high school classroom and FFA program for 12 years where I taught and coached Horticulture/Floriculture classes and teams. In 2015 I decided to branch out on my own and created Special Occasion Designs after leaving the classroom to be home more with my family. My passion has always been to help teach others about the industry overall and to create fun and inspired floral designs. I will always work with all of my clients to make sure that they are able to have the flowers and decor for the beautiful event they desire.

When you are working with a client and helping them to figure out where to invest their floral budget what are the key areas you recommend?

Personally, I feel there are 2-3 major items/areas that deserve the largest part of the floral budget. The first is the bridal bouquet- this is the floral item that is going to be featured the most during the day as it will be in a majority of the pictures that are taken that day so you want to make sur it is something that you love and truly a style that when you look back at your pictures in 20 years you can say you still love it. The second would be the ceremony space and some may disagree with me on this as it is the shortest part of the day but it is the most captured part of the day so again having a beautiful statement piece will just highlight an impact all those wedding photos. The third area is the head table as you don’t want to not have anything bug again it will be a highly photographed area so making sure that it still ties everything together and highlights the couple is important.

What are some trends you are seeing for florals this coming year?

I am seeing color, color and color. We are seeing a lot of couples that are focusing on more than just 2 colors this year and also looking at bolder and brighter colors. Even brides who keeping in a more neutral pallet are still having some fun tones blended in that is giving those color pallets interest and texture. We are also seeing a lot more custom dramatic installation pieces being requested and really challenging us to be fun, bold and creative so that it is unique to the couple and to the space. Last is metallics are not going anywhere and will still play a large part in the accents and details that you see being used throughout as well.

What is your favorite part of the day?

When I am doing the final walk through and see the full vision come to life. We work with our clients over months to fine tune and make sure that we are getting the details just exactly as they envision so seeing all the individual little parts and blooms come together to create the final big picture and working to make each isl unique and has those personal touches to every so its special to each couple just makes that final walk memorable
