Stephanie & Jordan’s day isn’t until next April but their engagement session this past spring downtown at the Bottleworks Hotel was a wonderful appetizer for the main course! We started their session at The Exchange Whiskey Bar and it was so fun so shoot something a little different and unique to them (they both work in the distribution industry) and The Exchange were wonderful hosts!

Fort Harrison State Park is easily one of the best places in Indianapolis for engagement sessions. From open fields, to trails and tree lines and even creeks to get into, there’s something for everyone!

Griffin & Dyllon’s engagement session was such a fun experience for us. Griffin is a meteorologist based in Evansville and we are so excited for their wedding later this year. She really wanted to shoot in the snow and Indiana delivered last weekend with 8+ inches for us in the Fishers area.

We came into recharged and ready to roll out our new approach for 2022. We want to focus on the best time of day to shoot, in the best settings to give our clients the best possible images. At the end of 2021 we felt burnt out and hit a creative wall. We took some time away from shooting during this offseason and re-evaluated how to keep things fun and creative for us and our clients. Focusing more on meeting our clients in areas/settings that suit them and allowing us to have more creativity as an artist. It’s this fact that we are really looking forward to for this upcoming season.

To start off wedding week for Brooke & Andrew, we had a little chance to go hang out with them for a few a hours. 1,000+ days of waiting for their wedding seemed almost cruel for these two. This will be the first of two times you’ll be seeing these two on the blog!

Engagement sessions are important to us as photographers for a multiple of reasons. Even if you live out of town like Sydney & Will do, we want to get a session in with you before your wedding day. Why?

  • It helps you to relax and feel more comfortable on wedding day

  • You get to learn with us on how we like to coach & pose you getting ready for your wedding day

  • On the backside of the session, you get to preview our photo delivery software and edits so you know what to better expect with your wedding photos

So when we get asked a lot if we can take the engagement session off the wedding packages in an effort to save money or perhaps you just don’t think you need to have one, it’s important to remember that we have a reason for shooting these with you and we WANT to get you the best quality images on your wedding day as possible!

This may have been a new record for getting this session scheduled and in. Natalie connected with us in late June and REALLY wanted to use their private property/wheat fields for their engagement session, there was however, a catch: it was going to be harvested around July 4th. Throw in a better than 70% chance of summer storms that night and well, it kind of looked like it wasn’t going to be in the cards.

But the stars aligned and it ended up being an absolutely perfect night.

Just another day at the “office”. It’s no secret that Fort Harrison State Park is a favorite location of ours. We’re there A LOT. Partly because we are so close to it (15 mins) but really, it’s because no matter the time of year, day or season, it pretty much always looks great. Plus, we know it like the back of our hand! That gives us a leg up on lighting and all the best spots!

Alexis & Richard’s session never got going right away lol. As we arrived it POURED for about 30 mins (radar showed clear skies overhead LOL) and we had to wait it out, but it left us with some great opportunities!

We can’t wait to have these two back with us in early Oct for their big day at Canal 337 downtown Indy!

Fresh off a nearly 24 trip back from Mexico, we were right back into the thick of sessions for Jenna & Tyler’s engagement session! These two claimed to be “awkward” in front of the camera (trust me, we ALL feel that way - us too!) but would you just look at them? :) And their softball t-shirts were a fun and unique touch!

Fresh off a red eye flight from Vegas (where Alex lives) and dealing with a slight alarm issue and not being there to pick him up (Kaley time); Kaley & Alex kicked off a wonderful weekend in Indy with us for their engagement session. Tell me the story of how you two met?

On a VERY hot summer's day in June, Rob and I met through a group of mutual friends at Ralston's on Mass Ave. Rob, a beer enthusiast, notices that I was drinking a sour (style of beer with acidic/tart taste, typically originating in Germany or Belgium). Rob decides to pull my leg by acting surprised that girls know how to distinguish between different beer. Little did he know that I am a bit of a beer enthusiast myself. Therein began a fun friendship that eventually led to more.

Tell us about your first date!

Our 'first date' is a funny story. Few months after we met, Rob sends me a text to see if I want to grab lunch during the week sometime (coincidentally, our offices are right next to each other). I agree, thinking this is a casual 'friend lunch', and ask him what day would work. Rob sends back "how about next Tuesday?" At this point, confusion sets in. The date in question happens to be Valentine's Day. Hmm. "Does he realize it's Valentine's Day?" "Does he know how to use a calendar?" "Do I go on a date with this guy?" Not surprisingly, I play it safe and decide to invite two of our mutual friends to lunch with Rob and me... To this day, Rob has neither confirmed nor denied knowing that he invited to me lunch on Valentine's Day. And so our 'first date' has became a story to treasure forever.

Tell us your about your upcoming wedding day!

We are still yet to decide on date and venue. Most of my family is abroad (Dubai, India, all over the world) while Rob's family is mostly here in the US. Throw in a pandemic and planning becomes that much harder.

What were some things you were nervous about going into your engagement session?

We heard about Cody through our friend and trusted that he knew what he was doing. Neither of us have had professional photos taken before so we didn't know to expect but typically we both like jumping in with both feet and we'll try anything once!

Are either of you "not photo people"? Did that change after your session at all?

Rob is not a 'photo person'. That being said, he NEVER complains when photos need to be taken. He was a great sport at our engagement photo session as well.

What did your photographer do to help you be more at ease before and during your session?

Cody guided us the entire way. He told us where to stand, how to pose, when to smile. He even helped me pick out what we were both going to wear! Posed photos can be awkward but Cody made sure to converse with us throughout the session so we felt at ease.

What is your biggest piece of advice to couples getting ready for their engagement session?

Try to think of what your relationship means and what you'd like to capture in the session. Rob and I brought beer glasses as props for our photos because we wanted to recreate the memory of that first night we met. Making it our own session was super important to us and we are so happy with the results. We love our candid photos the best because it really shows who we are as a couple perfectly.

Tell us about your experience working with Rogue Images Photography?

It couldn't have gone better. The photos are stunning and were ready so quickly. We have looked through them so many times already.

Talk about how you got ready for your session. Where did you shop, what did you want to look like etc? What were your expectations?

I asked Cody a LOT of questions about wardrobe. I ended up ordering a dress on Amazon that I was super happy with for our 'formal' look. I dug up Rob's wardrobe and found outfits that I thought would complement mine. Cody was helpful and super responsive throughout the process.

Erin & Ryan will be married last this year and we are so excited to be there for their day! It was so fun walking around the park with them learning how they met (playing softball!) and how they moved to Indiana together after dating for just a few weeks! When you know, you know right!
